Worldwide Marriage Encounter is an enrichment ministry for married couples that value their relationship and desire to share a richer, fuller life together. It is also a program for priests and religious that want to strengthen their relationships with their Church and religious communities.
The Marriage Encounter experience is a live event, whether in person or a virtual meeting, typically held over a weekend where three married couples and a priest provide new tools and perspectives, using examples from their own lives, to help couples work through common themes they may face during their marriage. Topics include communicating intimately, exploring personality styles, addressing difficult topics, and discovering God’s plan for their marriage. The shared experience helps the couple learn how to listen, share, and connect more deeply with one another.
Unlike other group retreats, this is a private experience between the couple, so there’s no group discussion; just an opportunity to learn how to be the best, most loving and thriving couple possible. Participants are also invited to join small group gatherings for ongoing formation and fellowship at their own or nearby parish. Nine out of ten couples that attend a Marriage Encounter recognize a long-lasting positive effect on their lives.
