Deacon Crisis Fund

The National Directory for the Formation, Ministry, and Life of Permanent Deacons in the United States of America paragraph 100 states, "Permanent deacons are to take care of their own and their family’s financial needs."  Recognizing the potential for extraordinary hardships, however, the USCCB also recommends that "In an individual situation of need, the diocesan Church is to see that the deacon and his family do not lack the basic necessities of life."  

Thus, through the support of the Archdiocese of Galveston-Houston and its offices, the Deacon Crisis Fund was established as a means to support deacons in individual or family crisis.  Whether facing unexpected funeral expenses, a sudden loss of employment, catastrophic medical costs, or other unforeseen crises, this fund serves as a tangible expression of the Church's care for those who have dedicated their lives to serving others.

Thanks to the generosity of our faithful community, the Deacon Crisis Fund, has already provided more than $14,000 in assistance over this past year to deacons and their families in their greatest times of need. Every contribution helps ensure that no deacon or family faces a financial crisis alone.

Upon the recognition of a condition or circumstance that would impair the deacon’s ability to minister, such as, but not limited to health, loss of employment, death of a family member, deacons, their spouses and/or supervisors are encouraged to contact the Director of the Permanent Diaconate immediately for assistance at [email protected].
