A Requiem of the Ages will take us through centuries of sacred music—from Gregorian Chant and Palestrina to Brahms, Mozart, Fauré, and Duruflé—along with contemporary works of consolation and hope. The luminous voices of children and youth will bring angelic beauty to timeless Requiem texts, and the evening will conclude with Ariel Ramírez’s Misa Criolla, a moving homage to Pope Francis.
The Archdiocesan Choir, together with the Archdiocesan Catholic Schools Chorus, will unite their voices with more than 100 voices and orchestra to lift their song in prayer to honor and commend to God our beloved priests, deacons, and religious of the archdiocese who have died this past year. We will also remember the victims of violence and natural disasters throughout our world, our nation, and Central Texas. In a special way, we will celebrate the life and witness of Pope Francis, who entered eternal life on April 21 of this year.
Come and experience A Requiem of the Ages—an inspiring concert of sacred music in the splendor of the Co-Cathedral—spanning centuries, from the solemn beauty of Gregorian Chant and the radiant polyphony of Palestrina to the masterworks of Brahms, Mozart, Fauré, and Duruflé. Contemporary composers will add music of consolation and hope, including a moving work dedicated to the victims of natural disasters. The luminous voices of children and youth will bring angelic beauty to timeless Requiem texts.
The concert will culminate with joyful music that reflects the Jubilee Year of Hope: the Gloria from Ariel Ramírez’s Misa Criolla, sung in Spanish with traditional Argentinian instruments, offered in homage to Pope Francis and his deep faith rooted in the people of his homeland.
In this month of All Souls, choir, orchestra, and faithful will rise together in sacred harmony—a hymn of remembrance and thanksgiving to God for the blessed departed.
