This module serves as an orientation to catechetical ministry in the Archdiocese of Galveston-Houston and focuses on exploring the mission that every catechist is called to fulfill according to the Church’s documents.This module introduces participants to the most widely recognized theories of cognitive, spiritual, and moral development, which allows them to appreciate the importance of identifying the specific needs of each learner according to their individual stage of development.This module guides participants toward a clear understanding of how the six tasks of catechesis form the foundation upon which the Archdiocesan Curriculum for Faith Formation was developed— the curriculum that our Archbishop asks all parishes to adopt and implement.This module trains catechists in the teaching methodology developed by our Archdiocese as part of the Archdiocesan Curriculum, with the aim of promoting more effective and lasting learning among our learners. This module is essential for those who do not have a university-level background in education.This module trains catechists-in-training on the importance of continually assessing learning in our faith formation classrooms. Because the success of catechetical ministry depends on verifying what our learners have actually assimilated during our time together, this module also explores various learning assessment strategies that have proven to be effective.This module introduces participants to an understanding of what “vocation” means in the Catholic tradition, focusing on our baptismal call to echo the goodness of God. We also explore the importance of fostering in our learners a receptive attitude toward the calls God makes to us and a willingness to embrace the missions to which God invites us.This module introduces participants to a clear understanding of the Catholic concept of spirituality, which is profoundly Christ-centered.In this module, we explore the complexities of the multicultural reality of our Church, examine the vocabulary that supports catechetical ministry in multicultural settings, and guide participants to understand cultural diversity as something that enriches the Church.This module guides participants to explore how we encounter the presence and action of the divine through signs and symbols, which are the essential elements of prayer and the public worship of the Catholic Church—what we call LITURGY.
