A Shepherd's Message - Easter 2026

Brothers and sisters, today we celebrate the glorious Resurrection of Christ!

Throughout the Lenten season, we prepared ourselves to enter into the mystery of Christ’s Passion and death, culminating in His rising from the dead. We accompanied Christ through His suffering on the cross, which led us to the empty tomb. 

Today, our churches are filled with joyous acclamations of "Alleluia!” announcing Jesus’ triumph over death! We welcome the newly baptized and confirmed who have celebrated the Eucharist for the first time. This is the beginning of a new life for them and for us, too, as we renew our baptismal promises.
 
As we gather with friends and family, I pray that the light of the Risen Christ will fill our hearts with joy. May this joy move us to be witnesses of the Resurrection to all those we encounter.

Know that I will pray for you throughout this Easter season, asking God to strengthen your Catholic faith and your love for the Eucharist. I ask you to pray for me that I may be a good shepherd of the Archdiocese of Galveston-Houston.

Hermanos y hermanas, ¡hoy celebramos la gloriosa resurrección de Cristo!

Durante el tiempo de Cuaresma, nos hemos preparado para adentrarnos en el misterio de la pasión y muerte de Cristo, culminando con su resurrección de entre los muertos.  Acompañamos a Cristo en su sufrimiento en la cruz, lo que nos condujo al sepulcro vacío.
 
Hoy, nuestras iglesias se llenarán de gozosas aclamaciones de "¡Aleluya!" que anuncian el triunfo de Jesús sobre la muerte.  Damos la bienvenida a los recién bautizados y confirmados que han celebrado la Eucaristía por primera vez. Es el comienzo de una nueva vida para ellos y también para nosotros, al renovar nuestras promesas bautismales.

Al reunirnos con la familia y amigos, oro para que la luz del Cristo Resucitado llene nuestros corazones de alegría.  Que esta alegría nos impulse a ser testigos de la Resurrección ante todos los que encontremos.

Oraré por ustedes durante este tiempo de Pascua pidiendo a Dios que fortalezca su fe católica y su amor a la Eucaristía.  Les pido que oren por mí para que pueda ser un buen pastor de la Arquidiócesis de Galveston-Houston.

Que Dios los bendiga a todos – en el nombre del Padre, del Hijo y del Espíritu Santo. Amén.
