Archbishop Vásquez’s Statement to the Faithful of the Archdiocese on the Death of Mr. Lorenzo Salgado Araujo

Having reflected on the death of Mr. Lorenzo Salgado Araujo, I ask all the faithful of the Archdiocese of Galveston-Houston to join me and Bishop Italo Dell’Oro, CRS in prayer for Mr. Salgado Araujo, his family, and all those affected by fear and anxiety. Also, please join us in praying for unity and peace in our community and nation.
 
As a society, we need to see and treat each other as men and women created in the image and likeness of God, including our immigrant brothers and sisters, our elected officials, as well as our law enforcement officers. Violence and disrespect will only lead to more fear and division. 

The U.S. Catholic Bishops have repeatedly called for enforcement efforts that are targeted, proportional, and humane. Furthermore, the bishops have expressed the necessity for meaningful immigration reform as opposed to an “enforcement-only approach.” A reform that brings about justice to all parties requires peaceful dialogue, mutual respect, and a commitment to charity.
 
Only with Christ’s help and by working together will we have a nation under God with liberty and justice for all!

Declaración del arzobispo Vásquez a los fieles de la Arquidiócesis tras la muerte del Sr. Lorenzo Salgado Araujo

Tras reflexionar sobre la muerte del Sr. Lorenzo Salgado Araujo, pido a todos los fieles de la Arquidiócesis de Galveston-Houston que se unan a mí y al obispo Italo Dell'Oro, CRS en oración por el Sr. Salgado Araujo, su familia y todos los afectados por el miedo y la ansiedad. Asimismo, por favor únanse a nosotros en la oración por la unidad y la paz en nuestra comunidad y nación.

Como sociedad, debemos vernos y tratarnos unos a otros como hombres y mujeres creados a imagen y semejanza de Dios, incluyendo a nuestros hermanos y hermanas inmigrantes, nuestros funcionarios electos y también a nuestros agentes de la ley. La violencia y la falta de respeto solo conducirán a más miedo y división. 

Los Obispos Católicos estadounidenses han pedido repetidamente esfuerzos de aplicación que sean dirigidos, proporcionales y humanos. Además, los obispos han expresado la necesidad de una reforma migratoria significativa en lugar de un "enfoque solo de aplicación." Una reforma que aporte justicia a todas las partes requiere un diálogo pacífico, respeto mutuo y un compromiso con la caridad.
 
¡Solo con la ayuda de Cristo y trabajando juntos tendremos una nación bajo Dios, con libertad y justicia para todos!

Thông điệp của Đức Tổng Giám mục Vásquez gửi cộng đoàn dần chúa trong Tổng Giáo phận về sự qua đời của ông Lorenzo Salgado Araujo

Sau khi suy tư về sự qua đời của ông Lorenzo Salgado Araujo, tôi kêu gọi toàn thể tín hữu trong Tổng Giáo Phận Galveston-Houston hãy cùng tôi và Đức Giám mục Italo Dell’Oro, CRS, hiệp ý cầu nguyện cho ông Salgado Araujo, gia đình ông, tất cả những ai đang bị ảnh hưởng bởi nỗi sợ hãi và lo âu. Đồng thời, xin hãy cùng chúng tôi cầu nguyện cho sự hiệp nhất và hòa bình trong cộng đồng và quốc gia của chúng ta.

Là một xã hội, chúng ta cần nhìn nhận và đối xử với nhau như những con người được tạo dựng theo hình ảnh và giống như Thiên Chúa, bao gồm cả anh chị em nhập cư, các quan chức dân cử cũng như các nhân viên thực thi pháp luật. Bạo lực và sự thiếu tôn trọng sẽ chỉ dẫn đến thêm nhiều nỗi sợ hãi và chia rẽ.

Các Giám mục thuộc Hội đồng  Giám mục Hoa Kỳ đã nhiều lần kêu gọi các nỗ lực thực thi pháp luật phải có trọng tâm, tương xứng và nhân đạo. Hơn nữa, các Giám mục cũng bày tỏ sự cần thiết phải có một cuộc cải cách di trú thực chất, thay vì chỉ áp dụng "phương pháp thuần túy thực thi pháp luật". Một cuộc cải cách mang lại công lý cho tất cả các bên đòi hỏi phải có sự đối thoại hòa bình, tôn trọng lẫn nhau và cam kết thực thi đức bác ái.

Chỉ với sự trợ giúp của Chúa Kitô và khi cùng nhau hợp tác, chúng ta mới có thể xây dựng một quốc gia dưới sự che chở của Thiên Chúa, nơi có tự do và công lý cho tất cả mọi người!
