Archbishop Joe S. Vásquez, Archbishop of Galveston-Houston, shared this statement following the Aug. 26 appointment of Detroit Auxiliary Bishop Arturo Cepeda as the newest auxiliary bishop of the Archdiocese of San Antonio, where Bishop Cepeda spent many of his formative years as a young seminarian and priest:
Bishop Italo Dell’Oro, the priests, deacons, men and women religious, and all the lay faithful of the Archdiocese of Galveston-Houston join me in welcoming Auxiliary Bishop Cepeda back to Texas and the Archdiocese of San Antonio, where he was ordained a priest almost 30 years ago.
He has proven to be a dedicated, pastoral Auxiliary Bishop in Detroit, and I am certain he will be of great benefit to the people in San Antonio. May the Lord continue to bless Bishop Cepeda in his ministry and service to the Church. My prayers are with him, Archbishop García-Siller and with the Archdiocese of San Antonio.
