Every year during Holy Week, the faithful of the Archdiocese are invited to gather for the celebration of the Chrism Mass — one of the most solemn and significant events of the liturgical year.
This year, the Chrism Mass will take place on Tuesday, March 31, at 7 p.m. at the Co-Cathedral of the Sacred Heart in downtown Houston. All are invited to attend.
Hundreds of priests from the Archdiocese are expected to concelebrate the Mass, during which they will also renew their promises, as all the oils used in sacramental ministry throughout the Archdiocese are blessed and the Sacred Chrism is consecrated.
These are subsequently sent to parishes and will be used in the upcoming year for the celebration of the Sacraments of Baptism, Confirmation, Holy Orders and the Anointing of the Sick. The Mass will be livestreamed at archgh.org/live.
