(Jacob Mcgowin/Unsplash)The word “Eucharist,” derived from the Greek εὐχαριστία, in simple terms, means “thanksgiving and gratitude.” Fittingly, then, there is a special Mass formulary exclusively found in the Roman Missal promulgated by the U.S. bishops. We also have a “Blessing of Food for Thanksgiving Day” in the Book of Blessings. These texts were composed so that, as we celebrate our national holiday, we can turn our eyes towards God, the source of every blessing for which we give thanks.
