HOUSTON - This week, Archbishop Timothy Broglio, of the Military Services and President of the U.S. Conference of Catholic Bishops, invited all bishops to to take up a collection for "Christians and other innocent victims of violence in Gaza and surrounding areas who are struggling to survive, protect their children, and live with dignity in dire conditions."
Archbishop Joe S. Vásquez and Auxiliary Bishop Italo Dell'Oro, CRS, join Archbishop Broglio's call to support those affected by the ongoing crisis in Gaza "to provide humanitarian relief and pastoral support for our affected brothers and sisters in Gaza and surrounding areas in the Middle East." This special second collection will occur on the weekend of August 23-24, 2025.
Pope Leo XIV has repeatedly called “for an immediate halt to the barbarism of the war and for a peaceful resolution of the conflict” in Gaza.
The Catholic Church is there providing emergency humanitarian relief through the Catholic Near East Welfare Association (CNEWA), providing relief in the Holy Land, and Catholic Relief Services (CRS), which works with Church and local partners in Jerusalem, the West Bank and Gaza.
The funds collected collection will be distributed equally to both organizations, as "both organizations have well-established partnerships with the Catholic Church in the region which allow them to respond quickly and efficiently," Archbishop Broglio said.
Here is how to donate to these Catholic organizations:
